Cloudgazers are mercenaries utilising the ancient Gold Age tool known as a Sling. Beyond this simple fact, they tend to have little in common. Some are noble and dashing, while others are glorified pirates and crass hooligans.

Origin

The origin of the term has been long forgotten, but Cloudgazers originated from Gold Age Azrune's protecting class. They were a form of elite police, tasked with keeping order and assisting citizens in varied ways. The Sling was their hallmark; an advanced tool designed to offer maximum utility whilst being a non-lethal weapon.

Pirates & Sentinels

During the Collapse, Cloudgazers as a unified order ceased to be. The ability to manufacture new Slings was lost; those that stole or inherited one had the privilege of continuing their use, often as they saw fit. As such, Cloudgazers were no longer a creed bound by honour or law, but an assortment of individuals with their own agendas.

It was after the Collapse that Azrune recovered designs for the Sling's forerunner, a shorter-range prototype called the Hook. Azrune trained a new force to use this tool, which became the modern Sentinels.
