The word Calputer is a portmanteau in Azbuka that originates from "Calculation Computer": that is, a machine capable of processing calculations. Advanced, Gold Age calputers are capable of such complex commands that they can even think and speak; the actual limit of this kind of sophisticated device is unclear. Regardless, most nation's calputers are basic thermionic valve mathematics machines. This is partly due to high EMP activity in Azimuth's atmosphere, which has made finding a more efficient substitute difficult. It is believed that Gold Age engineers devised a means of overcoming the EMP noise that plagues transistors to create Azrune's highly advanced "Thinking Machines".
